We're currently seeking input from you -
yes, YOU! - as part of the 2025 Brooklyn Pride planning gets underway. In particular, we would like to know who you think should be one of the grand marshals of the Brooklyn Pride Twilight Parade on June 14, 2025.
What's a grand marshal, you ask?
Brooklyn Pride, Inc. strives to increase visibility, acceptance, and inclusion, ensuring equality for the LGBTQIA+ Community. We achieve this through Pride Week and other community events that commemorate, educate, promote, and celebrate the Spirit of the Stonewall Riots.
In the spirit of the Brooklyn Pride, Inc. mission, we would like to honor a person or organization to lead the parade. Brooklyn Pride, Inc. would like to bestow on a deserving individual organization that has made a significant contribution to the LGBTQIA+ community. We would of course love for the person to be Brooklyn-based or have strong ties to our beloved borough, but we also would love to hear any suggestions that you may have.
Past grand marshals have included:
- Dr. Sandra Scott, Interim CEO of One Brooklyn Health and first LGBTQ+ woman of color to lead Brookdale Hospital
- Tiq Milan, speaker and activist for transgender rights and helping both transgender and cisgender men redefine stereotypes around masculinity
- Brooklyn Ghost Project (G.H.O.S.T. = Guiding & Helping Others Survive Transition), a black, transgender non-profit devoted to uplifting trans and non-binary members of color
- Eddie Moran, Mayor of Reading, PA, Brooklyn native, and founder of the town's first Pride celebration
- Mark Caserta, longtime Executive Director of the 5th Avenue Business Improvement District (BID)
- Desmond is Amazing, multi-awarded LGBTQ+ advocate, genderfluid editorial and runway model, among many other things
- Kate Barnhart, Brooklyn native and Executive Director of New Alternatives, a center for homeless and at-risk LGBTQ+ youth ages 16 to 30
Let us know who you think should get the distinction to be a Grand Marshal in 2025!
